Reflections from Ecclesiastes 9

As you step into this new year, you may be carrying goals, plans, and expectations. Some are about growth. Some are about provision. Some are about becoming better than you were last year. In all of that, Ecclesiastes 9 invites us to ask an honest question: What are we really building our lives on, wealth or wisdom?

Solomon tells the story of a poor wise man who saved an entire city from destruction. His wisdom worked. Lives were spared. Yet once the crisis passed, he was forgotten, not because his wisdom failed, but because he had no wealth.

It is a sobering reminder for the beginning of a new year: wisdom may be powerful, but wealth often determines whose voice is heard.

Solomon does not deny the value of wisdom. He calls it “better than weapons of war.” At the same time, he admits a difficult truth of life—“the poor man’s wisdom is despised.” This tension reflects the world we live in, where ideas may be right, but resources often give them reach.

As we move forward into a new season, Solomon also warns us about chasing wealth alone. He calls it vanity—not because money has no use, but because it cannot satisfy the soul or secure lasting meaning. Wealth without wisdom builds success that feels full on the outside and hollow within.

Yet Ecclesiastes does not dismiss wealth either. Resources matter. They allow families to thrive, communities to grow, and good ideas to endure. When wisdom stands alone, it may save the moment. When wisdom is partnered with resources, it can shape the future.

The lesson for a new year is not to choose one over the other. It is to put them in the right order.

Wisdom must lead. Wealth must follow.

When wisdom directs wealth, money becomes a servant rather than a master. Influence becomes a blessing rather than a burden. Progress honors God rather than replacing Him.

As this year begins, let this be your foundation:
Seek wisdom first.
Build wealth second.
Surrender both to God’s purpose.

That is where lasting impact begins. Happy new year 2026

The encounter between Jesus and the Samaritan woman in John 4 may appear on the surface to be an ordinary conversation beside a well. But beneath that moment lies one of the most revealing insights into how God interacts with broken people, how He exposes truth without shaming, and how He draws us away from religious debates into authentic worship.

One detail often overlooked is in John 4:20, when the woman suddenly says:

“Our fathers worshiped in this mountain; and ye say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.”

Nothing in Jesus’ previous statements pointed toward a conversation about mountains or worship sites. He didn’t mention tradition, geography, or religious disputes. Yet she brought all of that up.

Why?

That unexpected shift reveals a powerful spiritual reality still true today.

1. When Truth Reaches the Heart, People Often Reach for Religion

Just before her comment about worship places, Jesus had touched the most vulnerable part of her story:

“Thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband.” (John 4:18)

In that moment, she wasn’t embarrassed; she was exposed.
Conviction landed.
Light entered places she had tried to keep hidden.

And like many people, when the truth becomes personal, she immediately reached for something impersonal: religion.

She moved from:

• her personal reality
  → to a theological argument.

From:

• conviction
  → to distraction.

From:

• “This is about me…”
  → to “Let’s talk about which religion is right.”

Even today, when God presses a sensitive area of the heart, people often respond with:

• “What about other denominations?”
• “Which church is right?”
• “Which doctrine is correct?”

Anything to avoid facing the truth God just revealed.

2. She Used the Biggest Religious Argument to Hide Her Pain

The Jews and Samaritans had one major point of tension:

• Jews said Jerusalem was the rightful place of worship.
• Samaritans insisted on Mount Gerizim.

She pulled this centuries-old conflict into a moment that had nothing to do with locations or traditions. It was a well-crafted distraction.

But Jesus wasn’t fooled.

She wasn’t looking for a debate, she was trying to avoid deliverance.

3. Jesus Refused to Argue Religion – He Gave Revelation

Instead of debating her point, Jesus lifted the conversation to a completely different level:

“The hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.” (John 4:21)

“God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:24)

With a single answer, He dissolved a 400-year argument.

He essentially said:

• It’s not about the mountain —- it’s about the heart.
• Not about where you worship – but how.
• Not about tradition – but truth.
• Not about geography – but relationship.

He pulled her away from:

• her shame,
• her arguments,
• her religious defenses,
• her old mindset,

and pointed her directly to the Father.

4. The Most Broken Often Become the Boldest Evangelists

What happened next is remarkable.

The woman:

• left her waterpot,
• ran back to the city,
• shared her encounter,
• and drew an entire village to Christ.

She came to the well ashamed.
She left as a messenger.

Her wounded past became a tool of influence.
Her private pain became public testimony.
Her isolation turned into impact.

This is what happens when truth meets the heart in love.

5. The Lesson for Us Today

Many believers still respond the way she did.
When God reaches for their hearts, they hide behind:

• doctrinal questions,
• church arguments,
• denominational debates,
• theological distractions.

But Jesus still calls us higher.

He still says:

• “Stop focusing on mountains — come to Me.”
• “Stop arguing — start worshiping.”
• “Stop hiding — let Me heal you.”

Conclusion

The Samaritan woman didn’t need another religious conversation.
She didn’t need a debate, a seminar, or an argument.
She needed living water.

Jesus met her in her brokenness, revealed truth without condemnation, and transformed her into a witness who changed her entire community.

This story continues to remind us that:

• God meets us where we are,
• speaks truth that frees rather than shames,
• and draws us past religious noise into real worship.

And He is still doing the same today.

Joshua 6 remains one of the most remarkable chapters in the Old Testament, not because of military strength or human brilliance, but because it reveals what happens when people follow God’s instructions exactly as given.

The fall of Jericho was no ordinary conquest. No siege engines were used, no swords drawn in the beginning. The city fell not to force, but to faith. It was obedience that brought down the walls.

Sometimes the greatest victories are not won by fighting harder, but by listening better.

The Strategy That Didn’t Make Sense

When Joshua received his battle plan, it was unlike anything any commander would expect.

“March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times… then have the priests blow the trumpets and all the people give a loud shout.”
(Joshua 6:3–5, paraphrased)

No wall was touched.
No siege was built.
No weapon was drawn.
Only footsteps and faith.

To the natural mind, it made no sense. But to the spiritual mind, it was clear: this battle belonged entirely to the Lord.

Why Jericho Fell

The walls of Jericho didn’t fall because of human effort or noise; they fell because of faithful obedience. For six days, the Israelites walked in silence, trusting God’s word. On the seventh day, their shout wasn’t out of frustration; it was a declaration of faith.

Hebrews 11:30 says,

“By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the people had marched around them for seven days.”

It wasn’t the volume of their shout that broke the walls; it was the God behind the instruction.

What We Learn from Jericho

1. God’s instructions often contradict logic.
   Faith may ask you to do what looks foolish in the eyes of man but wise in the eyes of God.
2. Obedience precedes breakthrough.
   The miracle didn’t happen on day one or day six. It came after complete obedience.
3. There’s power in silence.
   The people were told to stay quiet while marching. No murmuring. No complaining. Just trusting.
4. Victory sometimes comes with a shout.
   After silence comes boldness. God calls us to declare His power, to praise before we see results.

My Personal Reflection

In my own journey, I’ve fought many battles, spiritual and personal. I’ve conquered exams, preached revivals, cast out demons, and seen healing miracles. I’ve also faced deep failures, failures in relationships, leadership, and planning that left me embarrassed and broken.

But later I realized something profound: even in my failures, God was winning.

There were seasons where I stood on the wrong side of the wall, like a Canaanite resisting God’s direction. Those walls had to fall, and sometimes that meant God had to defeat me first.

But when I surrendered, when I came to God’s side, into His covenant and purpose, victory followed.

I remember my early ministry days. I was preaching at a youth camp for ten days. I had no money for university, no government loan, and I felt like I had failed in life. But now I see it differently. I wasn’t failing. I was exactly where God wanted me, serving Him when I thought I was stuck.

It took years to realize that the walls I thought were blocking me were actually teaching me to march in obedience.

Conclusion: March Your Jericho in November 2025

Every one of us faces walls, walls of fear, doubt, rejection, or impossibility. And often, the instruction God gives us to bring them down doesn’t seem logical.

Will you still march?
Will you stay silent when told to be silent?
Will you shout when told to shout?

Sometimes your breakthrough won’t come by pushing harder; it will come by obeying deeper.

Let Jericho remind you of this truth: Obedience wins battles that strength never could.

Welcome to the very first Faith Exercises Monthly Article, a space where faith meets reflection. Each month, I’ll share a message inspired by prayer and experience to help you grow spiritually and walk boldly in God’s purpose. Let’s begin this journey together with October’s reflection: “God Knows Your Position.”

In Ezekiel 48, the prophet is given a breathtaking vision of the future land of Israel. Every tribe is assigned a specific portion. Nothing is random. Each boundary, each allotment, each gate is carefully measured. The picture is one of order, precision, and divine placement. God is showing that He not only restores His people but also positions them exactly where they belong.

This vision is not just about a future map of Israel, it’s a glimpse into God’s heart for His children. He knows where you should be. He knows your place, your calling, your future. He is the God of placement as well as the God of promise.

I’ve seen this in my own life. Years ago, I never imagined that one day I would live in America, be in ministry, run businesses, and write a book that is about to touch and heal billions of people around the world. At the time, none of this seemed possible. But God knew my position before I did. He knew where I would be and what I would be doing long before I could even dream it.

That’s what Jeremiah 29:11 means when God says, “For I know the plans I have for you… plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope.”
It means that God has already lived in your future. Your future is God’s past. He’s not guessing where you’ll end up, He’s already been there, arranging every detail with love and precision. So when you walk into your tomorrow, you’re stepping into a place where God has already prepared the ground for you.

Maybe today you feel displaced, overlooked, or uncertain about your future. Ezekiel 48 reminds us that God is not random. He is intentional. He knows your position. He has a plan to place you where you should be, in your family, your career, your ministry, your purpose.

The only prayer you need to pray this month is this:

“Lord, place me where I should be. Not where I want to be, but where You want me to be.”

When you pray this way, you give God the freedom to align your life with His perfect plan.

Ezekiel’s closing words are powerful: “The name of the city will be ‘The Lord Is There.’” (Ezekiel 48:35).
When you allow God to place you, you’ll discover He was already there waiting for you.

Your Faith Exercise for October:

Take time each week to pray this simple prayer – “Lord, place me where I should be.”
Write down what changes or impressions God places in your heart. Notice how His positioning begins to shape your days, your choices, and your peace.
